Task 4 technology evaluation!

Technology evaluation

For the research section of my project I used several pieces of technology, iPad, I phone and the good old pc! The main parts of research were done on a pc as it is a larger screen, easier to see things that I may miss on a smaller screen such as a iPad or iPhone. I used quite a few online presentation tools as well, Prezi is a great way that I used to show my work rather than just posting straight onto blogger. The camera that I used to film the music video was a DSLR CANNON, high quality, filming in 1080p, the quality is awesome and due to the fact it was music video it needed to be as I was going to be shooting close ups and there is more control over the focusing and zoom of these than other cameras. I feel that the choice of camera was correct as it was relatively light weight and portable and sturdy. For the majority of the filming I did it with a tripod was a bit to jumpy to film by hand. I thought about using a dolly for the tracking however due to the space I was filming in it became impractical to use, also the dolly we have at school isn’t very smooth so it often jumped about or got stuck. The opening scene is in an ambulance, the dolly was way to wide to fit down here, so I ended up leaning the tripod slowly keeping the camera level and doing it that way. The sound quality from the camera was great although I didn’t use any of it, it was very crisp and sharp. The use of premier pro and other editing tools and software allowed me to edit the music video and my evaluation tasks together, speeding footage up and changing the duration, using cross dissolves. I found premier pro quiet easy to use as I have previous editing experience with this software, After Effects is another story, im still learning as its quit a technical program to use, however I gained a basic understanding in how to make titles and edit a few sections of footage but I didn’t need to use it this time as it didn’t fit in with the common conventions of the genre. For my evaluation tasks I used a couple of pieces of equipment that I hadn’t before, I used the Rhode mic, and my GoPro hero 3+ camera to film the interviews and part of a response to this question, I have used quite a lot, and quite a variation of technologies in this project, and all to my advantage!
